20 Years of Celts and Romans in Manching
The Manching Celtic and Roman Museum celebrated its 20th anniversary on the first weekend in July, and we were there with a small delegation. The little area next to the museum was packed nonetheless, as, apart from us, there were two other Roman groups, two Celtic groups and numerous other craftspeople, institutions and hands-on activities on site. The daily programme was correspondingly wide-ranging, covering everything from land surveying and Roman music to Celtic horsemanship. We also made a varied contribution to the presentations on the activity field, including training the legionaries, deploying our artillery and staging a battle against the Celts. In between, the large crowds had the opportunity to learn about wool processing and bathing in our civilian area, or to try out Roman games for themselves. And we, too, had plenty of time in between to take a look at the museum, which, with its small but excellent exhibition, truly deserved the grand anniversary celebrations.
